What do half a Greek, a whole Berliner and a Greek grandma have in common? They provide a proper exchange of oil. Not in a car, of course, but in our cuisine. Our beloved olive oil has gained a mediocre reputation in recent years due to the often poor quality of mass production, when in fact the “Mediterranean’s green gold” in its purest form is a true treasure.

And this is exactly what the guys from OEL Berlin want to prove. They believe in a clear statement: From the olive directly to the oil. No detours, no additives, just pure and all natural.
Amadeus and Marc are longtime friends. These two lively Berlin guys spent 13 years together at school and, after failed world domination plans, tried out pretty much every profession there is. Water filter representatives and Christmas tree sellers were probably among the more basic job descriptions they racked up. But then at the beginning of 2015 they finally found their passion and founded OEL Berlin. Today Simone from Italy completes the team and makes up the one-man creative department.

HOPPING OVER TO GREECE
The olives find their way from the tree into the canisters once a year, starting with the harvest which happens in November. Of course, this means the team of OEL Berlin travels to Greece, to get their hands involved. “Apart from this mandatory date, we are on site between three and six times a year. Mostly for land care, tree care and for handling large orders,” Marc tells us. “Of course, he always strives for a good and necessary mixture of work and vacation,” he adds with a wink.

“FROM THE OLIVE DIRECTLY TO THE OIL.
NO DETOURS, NO ADDITIVES.
JUST PURE AND ALL NATURAL.”

TRADITION WITH TASTE
What actually characterizes this special oil from OEL Berlin? On the one hand you have the taste characteristics, such as the slightly nutty undertone and the fine nuances of citrus fruits. Above all, however, it is the philosophy behind it and the traditional Greek agriculture; the harvest done by hand and the gentle processing of the olives in the press. Filled in UV-protected insulated canisters, the incomparable taste is preserved and the development of chemical reactions is avoided. Natural, unmixed, naturally cloudy and certified organic. What more could you ask for?

Olala, what a cool grandma: As a tribute and thank you, the portrait of the sprightly grandma now adorns the canisters of the Berlin company. GRANDMA ANTHOULA AS THE FACE OF A BRAND
Didn’t we mention a very special grandmother at the beginning? That’s right, we spoke of Amadeus’ Greek grandmother. “Our business began with Anthoula. If you ride into Greece with the ridiculous idea of becoming an olive oil producer, it is advantageous to have a grandmother who takes you seriously and maintains good contacts with farmers. She helped us wherever she could. For example with finding and buying land,” says Marc. The team decided to express their honor and gratitude in a very special way and her face became the centrepiece of the design and is now proudly emblazoned on the oil canisters. “The choice of her portrait as an emblem is a tribute, an homage and a return to values that have become rare all in one.”
Together with grandma Anthoula, the young men have managed to put olive oil back on the podium that it deserves in the mass of agricultural products in the world. “We’ve already given a lot of people a taste for it,” they say proudly. Are you also ready for an OEL change?
