To combat this feeling, Kunert and GREEN WINDOW developed the BLUE 90 line in a squarecollab. It’s the first biodegradable pantyhose made from sustainable materials like fishing nets and other recycled materials. After being disposed of, it returns to the earth’s natural cycle under anaerobic conditions. The legwear manufacturer was inspired by Mother Nature herself, as she first lets magnificent flowers blossom, then wither and return to the earth. Thanks for the inspo!

The collection also includes socks – probably to the great disappointment of all grandmothers who wanted to teach us how to mend our stockings with a lot of love, sorry grandma!

There are regretted purchases and then there are things that you regret not purchasing. The latter has haunted me since a visit to London back in 2007, when I found THE tights of my dreams in Camden Town, but didn’t buy them. As a soon to be student, I had to think twice about whether these incredible leg sleeves (entirely covered in a comic book print) were worth the 30 pounds. Especially knowing how my heart would bleed if I ruined them by clumsily snagging them on something. Plus I’d have a bad conscience knowing I’d have to throw an irreparable garment away, of course at the expense of nature and the environment.
THE CIRCLE OF LIFE – INSPIRED BY NATURE

The aim of the KUNERT BLUE collection is to combine quality, trend awareness and a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

THE PRODUCTION PROCESS OF BIODEGRADABLE TIGHTS
So, what does the process of developing recyclable tights look like? It starts with yarn production under environmentally friendly conditions. Used nylon 6 waste materials such as fishing nets, fabrics, old carpets and other recyclable materials become ECONYL®, a 100% regenerated and regenerative fibre. The latest technologies allow us to produce yarn from waste, while also ensuring quality and performance. Thanks to ECONYL®, we have access to high quality tights and socks which, once having served their purpose, can be handed over to a landfill site with a clear conscience, where they can decompose under anaerobic conditions.
BLUE 90 or not, the upwards travelling run will probably remain the enemy of every tights wearer, but a certain sting in our green hearts has been reduced greatly thanks to Kunert. With these innovative products, the manufacturer is taking an essential, sustainable and big step towards environmental protection and is making the running stitch the symbol of reincarnation, as it is the end of tights, but somehow also the beginning of another beginning.
