Do you ever have that? Every time I go on the internet I get bombarded with thousands of pieces of new information. As soon as a cool new idea pops up, the rights and the wrongs blurs into one big Fifty Shades of Grey moment. But with HANDS ON VEGGIES, it’s different. I was immediately hooked by the Styrian company, especially because the question of right or wrong doesn’t even come up. Producing natural cosmetics without animal testing is the right thing to do. Point. And it’s also right to do that with healthy, organic and sustainable ingredients. Although I know all that, I nevertheless, sometimes use products that just simply “smell good”, or just make me feel “really clean”. And I mean, hey, I’m only human. Besides, I’ve definitely taken some trips down the organic cosmetics isle before, but then the feel or the smell didn’t quite catch me. They had the scent of compromising to me; and that isn’t very sexy.

VISIONARY: SUGAR CANE INSTEAD OF CRUDE OIL
HANDS ON VEGGIES, the Austrian start up, however, is sexy, especially when it comes to using processed vegetables. Whether a moisturising avocado, an astringent artichoke or kale, the vitamin C bomb; it’s vegan, organic and contains no silicones, sulphates or synthetic preservatives like parabens. HANDS ON VEGGIES prefer to use sugar surfactants for the foam. Nutrient rich vegetables, organic ferments and plant extracts with antimicrobial and antioxidant effects, provide an extra nourishing boost. As a result, you can eliminate the need for conventional synthetic preservatives which are even approved for use in natural cosmetics. Through the fermentation process, many plant ingredients reveal their full nutritive potential. The founders, Dr. Nicole Doyle and MMag. Lisa Dobler, show that with creativity and effort, it is possible to combine completely sustainable products with modern design. And they fulfil all my heart’s desires: Shampoos and shower gels that smell amazing, foam well, and don’t give you the feeling of having harsh soap in your hair. The company has also experienced some trial and error. The first run of two different shampoos turned out to be too thin and, opened at the wrong angle, came out uncontrolled. But no need to worry, it’s important to note that the women entrepreneurs have met their high demands on their shampoos, shower gels and body mousses head on, right from the start.
ONE HUNDRED PERCENT AWESOME
Together with their team, Lisa and Nicole have the best formula for success up their sleeves: they exclusively develop products that they themselves would love to buy and use. And this, of course, really shows the attitude of these women entrepreneurs. No compromises are made at the expense of the environment and your own health. Even the packaging tubes and bottles for their cosmetics aren’t made using crude oil, as most bottles are, but instead, they’re made of sugar cane. It’s called “Trash 2 Treasure” and they’re made from the waste of the sugar industry. This process saves emissions and is 100% recyclable, of course. But that’s not all even all! Not only is CO2 reduced during the production process, the greenhouse gas is also being absorbed by the plants themselves. This means that one tonne of this material neutralises three times it’s output amount of CO2. So thank you, for creating the perfect combination of pure, environmental awareness and that “It smells so good” moment. I like it.
